AX200 displays neuroregenerative and neuroprotective properties in various preclinical models.
SYGNIS develops AX200 for the treatment of acute ischemic stroke. AXIS stands for AX200 in Acute Ischemic Stroke, it is a national, multicenter, randomised, doubleblind, placebo-controlled dose escalation. 4 different doses of AX200 were tested in 12 centers in Germany. Alltogether 44 patients were enrolled in the trial. The primary aim of the study was to show safety and tolerability of AX200 in acute stroke patients. Furthermore efficacy data was collected (clinical outcome after 3 months, infarct growth in MRI).
In July 2007 SYGNIS announced the successful completion of the AXIS study (Phase IIa, indication acute stroke). The results demonstrated safety and tolerability of AX200 in stroke patients. Beyond that, the compound had shown first hints of efficacy.
