Strategy

SYGNIS is a market-orientated pharmaceutical company that focuses on the research, development, clinical testing and marketing of innovative medications for the CNS segment.

To this end, the company has access to a highly-experienced and well-published team of in-house experts as well as to an excellent international network. In addition, the stock exchange-listed company also has a solid financial basis and is equipped with adequate tools that allow the creation of a multi-stage and contiguous value-added chain for the development and marketing of its products.

One of the key elements of this value-added chain is the consequent expansion of the existing and highly attractive pipeline:

  • Firstly, the company’s proprietary agents are tested for further indications and forms of administration ("line extension").
  • Secondly, specific in-house R&D programmes identify and evaluate new pre-clinical drug candidates for CNS indications.
  • Thirdly, suitable CNS product candidates are systematically tested with the objective of acquisition and/or licensing.

SYGNIS’s declared objective is to posses one to two product candidates in each phase of clinical development by 2010.

In order to exploit the market potential of the CNS agents that have successfully been tested SYGNIS pursues a clear strategy:

Product-candidates for major indications are to be licensed out to bigger pharmaceutical companies. The most significant of these candidates is AX200 for stroke. In contrast, products for niche indications (e.g. ALS), which are generally associated with only limited development and marketing efforts, are to be marketed and sold by SYGNIS itself.
