AX200 is a biological molecule, developed by SYGNIS for the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases in particular for stroke; AX200 codes for G-CSF (Granulocyte-Colony Stimulating Factor, Filgrastim). It is the most advanced drug candidate in SYGNIS’ product pipeline. Currently being assessed in a phase II efficacy in ischemic stroke.
AX200 is an endogenous protein. As part of the body's own protective response the production of G-CSF is boosted after brain damage. If the molecule is given as a medication it enhances the existing endogenous protection against the damage.
AX200 has multiple beneficial mechanisms of action: AX200 stops neuronal cell death in the acute phase of the disease while at the same time stimulating the regeneration of the already damaged CNS through the stimulation of neurogenesis, as well as arteriogenesis and the reorganisation of neuronal networks (plasticity enhancement).
SYGNIS’ discovery of G-CSF’s neuroprotective and neuroregenerative properties is supported by convincing therapeutic effects in vivo models for Parkinson’s disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), and spinal cord injury.
