SYGNIS is a pioneer in the field of neurogenesis and believes that stimulation of the endogenous formation of new neurons could create novel treatment options for neurodegenerative and psychiatric disorders. SYGNIS has established and validated a unique platform to discover compounds, such as SY300, that stimulate neurodifferentiation i.e. these compounds increase the number of newborn neurons. SYGNIS´platform relies upon a combination of proprietary techniques and know-how and uses primary neural stem cells as an integral part of the screen for the discovery of novel drug candidates. Compounds are further characterized and tested in various in vivo models for acute and chronic neurodegenerative diseases as well as in behavioural models for cognition, learning and memory. With this integral platform approach applying a broad spectrum of technologies from cell based screens, chemical optimization to physiological studies, a series of promising lead structures for preclinical development have been identified.
